Layered Tater Tot Casserole

Layered Tater Tot Casserole is a very easy dinner that's perfect for weeknights. There are two layers of tots - one on the bottom and one on top. There's no cream of anything soup, or any other creamy ingredients, so the bottom layer of tots doesn't get soggy. The casserole isn't dry, though, because there's plenty of cheese. There are a lot of veggies, too, though kids probably won't even notice because they'll be distracted by the tater tots. Throw in a cup and a half of frozen mixed veggies into the ground beef. You don't even have to thaw them! This tater tot casserole is an excellent dinner on a weeknight.

It is important to drain the ground beef before you add the milk and veggies, otherwise the casserole will be greasy.

  • 1 (30-ounce) bag tater tots
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 1/2 cup frozen mixed vegetables
  • 2 cups shredded Cheddar cheese, divided

  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F.

  2. Brown meat. Drain the grease.

  3. Turn heat down to medium and add milk. Stir in frozen vegetables (you do not have to thaw them) and cook for a few minutes.

  4. Layer a 9 x 13 casserole dish with half of the tater tots. This should be one even layer. Pour the ground beef mixture on top. Add one cup of cheese, making an even layer. Make another tater tot layer. Sprinkle with remaining cheese.

  5. Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Then, bake uncovered for 15 minutes.

The fact that this recipe has everything you need in five ingredients is an excellent reason to throw this one on the menu soon. I can see this being one of those fast dinners that you can throw together and get out of the way while you finish up the laundry or tidy up the house. Thanks!

We have loved this dish for years. I sometimes pour nacho cheese sauce over the meat and veggies then sprinkle the cheddar cheese on top of the tots for a southwest version.

This was Wonderful. My daughter found this recipe on Pinterest and she made it for us. Nummy Nummy Nummy, Tatertot Casserole in our Tummies. Great Eats!
